The SDA HOUSING Podcast
"The SDA HOUSING Podcast" is brought to you by the team at NDIS PROPERTY AUSTRALIA. Whether you are listening as an Investor, Provider, Builder, Developer or Participant, we cover a wide range of topics informative to any audience. We discuss how we work with all stakeholders in sourcing and delivering new dwellings which are SDA compliant, to general information about the NDIS, and statistics about Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) in the NDIS sector. We regularly have guest speakers each week from other organisations to talk about their involvement in the SDA sector, and how they contribute to the social impact of SDA, building homes that are fit-for-purpose, while giving NDIS participants the "Choice and Control" over how, where and with whom they live. As we are learning and adapting to an evolving world of SDA in the NDIS sector, we want you, our listeners, to come on the journey with us so that you too can contribute and make a social impact for People With Disabilities (PWDs). If you would like to share your SDA journey with us, we welcome you to contact us to tell your story. EPISODE 252 - Submission to Minister opposing removal of IL
In this episode, Debbie & Matt discuss a submission from individuals and organisations in the SDA sector to the Minister for the NDIS Bill Shorten.
This submission suggests that recommendation 9.4 of the NDIS Review Final Report, which was released in December 2023, not be accepted by the government.
The recommendation was
"The National Disability Insurance Agency should remove the Improved Liveability category for new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) developments, and review the remaining SDA categories and associated Design Standards to evaluate their effectiveness."
We have covered the issues around this recommendation in previous episodes back in December after the review was published, and there has been no end of discussion within the industry on the negative outcomes were this recommendation to be implemented.
The submission, put together by Greg Barry from SDA Services (a past guest speaker here) and James Brown of SDA+ along with 65 other SDA sector collaborators covers 5 detailed and very relevant points that the recommendation not be accepted.
Listen on for an overview of the submission that we hope will be taken up by Minister Shorten, essentially enabling more stability and confidence in the SDA sector.
